Smell The Roses

Smell The Roses

I woke up a few days ago hearing ‘Smell the roses’ in my spirit. At first I didn’t understand what it meant and how it applied to me, but as I continued to meditate, I caught the message.

Many times we breeze through life aiming for the gold at the end of the race, that we miss out on all the beautiful things on the journey designed to make our life race a beautiful  experience.

No wonder psychologists are saying that a lot of humans have  conditioned their brains to only trigger happy sensations when major accomplishments are achieved.

The implication of this is that our brains skip little/simple day to day life events, things capable of fueling pleasant emotions and only  trigger happy hormones in response to bigger positive events.

One of the reasons people are dying of stress is because their happy hormones are suspended and repressed from being triggered to little day to day victories.

This simply means to enjoy every step of your journey. Being at a fast forward speed  till you get to the finish line denies you of the joy of impacting others along your life path.

When your eyes are too fixed on the goals you must achieve, it takes your mind off cherished moments which you may never get back.

Smelling the roses on your way to the top doesn’t mean one should lose focus, but if it is at the expense of enjoying where you are as you continue to run to where you want to be, then it is not worth it.

Lots of time we get fixated on the goal, challenges, problems, targets, deadlines and work,  and we become completely estranged to ourselves, our family, people and even God.

When was the last time you had a good laugh?

Slow down, and pay attention. It is not about the destination but the process.

The process is what makes life interesting..

There is always something to be grateful for. People who have learnt to smell the roses are grateful  people.

Smelling the roses means to take time to appreciate the beauty around you. No matter how things are there is still something that can make you smile.

Reflect and find a rose and smell it. Your rose can be your  good health, your beautiful face, your understanding family, just look deep enough and you find a scent of joy and peace you can sniff out

Enjoy each day as it comes, don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow is already taken care of.

Smile more, love more, appreciate  more ,give more, listen to people with the empathy and remain thankful

Smelling the roses means to recognize things or people who increase your stress level and finding creative ways to deal with them positively. Stress is a killer. It puts you constantly under pressure and it kills excitement and productivity.

It also puts your brain on work mode 24/7 with no break leading to  mental burnout, exhaustion and depression

Unfortunately some of the things that fuels stress is fear of things that have not even happened,an anticipation of failure, disappointments and lack chokes out a life of faith, joy and gratitude.

Intentionally plan into your day a time out to relax, reflect and meditate on things that are godly, good, loving, peaceful, beautiful and of good report.

Comparing yourself with another person  is a very simple way of choking the sweet smell of gratitude from your roses.

Don’t  go around carrying immense pressure from comparing your achievements  with others. We all have different  purposes and assignments. And all you need to fulfill that mission is already embedded in you.

Strife and jealousy can grow in any one who gives it the right soil to germinate. And a perfect soil for unhealthy competition  is comparing yourself with others.

Consolidation, collaboration, complementing and absolute trust in God are ways to kill jealousy fast. You have all you need and just because  you don’t see it yet doesn’t mean it’s absent. Keep smelling the roses.

I love you, Jesus loves you more.
